Principal of Cartagena International School
With more than four decades devoted to the integral education of children and young people, Elvira Martínez Marrugo is one of the founders and the current Principal of Cartagena International School, an institution born in 1983 from the shared dream of three educators: Rosario Hernández, María Helena Manjarrés and Elvira Martínez Marrugo herself.
Her vision of a school combining academic excellence, human values and bilingual education first took shape in a small kindergarten in the Manga neighborhood. The quality of its teaching soon led to the opening of the primary level and later of the secondary level, expanding into new campuses within the same area.
Faced with the steady growth of the school community, the Principal led the purchase of the land at Kilometer 14 on the Pontezuela road, where the current campus took form. Under her direction, the school has strengthened its bilingual model, its international outlook and its commitment to pedagogical innovation, sustainability and human development.
Today, Principal Elvira Martínez Marrugo continues to guide with passion and leadership a school community that believes in education as a tool for social transformation and in the power of knowledge to build a better future.
